Its been 10 years since we released this song on our EP Hot Jams For The People To Dance To. I've re-recorded my vocals and this is the new and improved version of Sandwiches! Hope you're hungry.
This song was written in 2008 on a late Friday night in January after a Japanese class at the University of Cincinnati. Marcus Smith was a broke and hungry college student excited to grab a bite to eat. However, the dining halls were both dark, empty, and with only the lingering scent off the day's selections.
Marcus Smith hung his head in disappointment and began the trek through the frigid Ohio air to his dorm. Over in the distance, a beacon of light illuminated the quad. This yellow and green glow called out to Smith like a siren's song. It was the famed sandwich behemoth, Subway. With less than $10 in his pocket, he ventured over.
He opened the door and a wave of warmth hit him. The scent of freshly baked bread wafted across the restaurant. That's when Marcus' eyes widened. He realized he had enough money for an entire footlong sub! He ordered the perfect sandwich and with his last $5, he left the store a happy man. That's when a lightbulb went off. Marcus knew what he had to do.
He took that sandwich and ran back to his dorm room. Within 10 minutes, he had written an entire verse. Another 30 minutes, he had written all three verses. The music and the melody both started swimming through his brain. Almost finished, the song was missing a chorus. That's when Marcus' roommate walked in and upon seeing his dinner says, "Sorry you missed out on the dining hall again." Marcus shrugged and said "It's okay, I like to eat sandwiches."
